Kuba Makerspace Technology & Innovation Camp

Program Overview

Kuba Makerspace is launching an innovative Technology and Innovation camp in Lira, designed to empower young minds with cutting-edge skills for the future. Located at Plot 1-2, Engola Sam Road, Lira Job Centre, Ireda Housing Estate, this program offers hands-on learning experiences for children and youth aged 3-18 years.

Theme: Future Builders

This theme empowers learners to build, design, test, and present real-world technology solutions. Through steady hands-on engagement, students explore robotics, electronics, coding, artificial intelligence, teamwork, and leadership.

Learning Tracks

1. Foundational Robotics

Target Group

New learners with little to no prior experience

Key Learning Areas

  • Introduction to mechanics, electronics, and coding fundamentals
  • Basic artificial intelligence concepts
  • Microcontrollers, components, and sensor technology

Hands-On Activities:

  • Assemble HAK boards to understand circuits and current flow
  • Learn soldering techniques and sensor attachment
  • Program using PCDuino kits with Scratch
  • Build and test functional designs
  • Develop a team project for final presentation

2. Robotics Engineering

Target Group

Students with strong foundational skills seeking advanced challenges

Key Learning Areas

  • Advanced mechanical systems and electronics
  • Complex coding and applied AI
  • Arduino and Raspberry Pi programming
  • Input/output systems and sensor behavior analysis

Technical Skills

  • Programming in Arduino IDE and Python
  • Circuit board design and printing
  • Hydraulic system construction for studying movement and force
  • Prototype development addressing community or market problems

Outcome: Teams create functional prototypes that solve real-world challenges

3. Software Programming

Target Group

Students with no prior experience or basic computer knowledge

Key Learning Areas

  • Web Development: HTML fundamentals and website creation
  • Programming Languages: Python and JavaScript
  • Mobile Development: Android app development for smartphones
  • Applied Projects: Creating mathematical expressions and functional applications

Outcome: Students work in small groups (2-4 members) to develop a final project on their chosen platform

Soft Skills Development

Beyond technical abilities, students cultivate essential life skills that transform ideas into impactful solutions.

Collaboration

Students learn to plan tasks effectively, distribute roles fairly, and support teammates throughout project development. They practice clear communication and active listening to ensure team success.

Leadership

Each participant leads at least one activity during the camp, gaining experience in task guidance, time management, and directing group progress toward shared goals in a well-structured, supportive setting.

Pitching & Presentation

Students develop the ability to present ideas with clarity and confidence. They prepare concise pitches for their projects and present to peers, mentors, and community members clearly and effectively.

Entrepreneurship

Participants analyze market needs and develop viable concepts linked to their prototypes. Each team creates a basic business model that demonstrates the practical value of their project in real-world contexts.

Students learn environmental conservation methods that are both productive and financially sustainable. They discover how to create positive environmental change in their communities while generating income through green innovations.

Schedule & Structure

Daily Sessions: Two-hour blocks scheduled each day

Flexible Format: If enrollment grows, we will offer both morning and afternoon sessions to accommodate more participants

Age-Appropriate Grouping: Students are organized by age and experience level to ensure focused, effective learning

Showcase Day

On the final day of camp, students present their projects at a special showcase event. Parents, school administrators, NGO representatives, government officials, and partners are invited to interact with the projects and celebrate student achievements.

Presentations may be individual or team-based, demonstrating the skills and knowledge acquired throughout the program.

Certification

All students who successfully complete the camp receive an official certificate from Kuba Makerspace, recognizing their achievement and newly acquired skills.
